Ballarat Station’s new pedestrian overpass has arrived on site, a key feature in improving accessibility for all station users.

The 28m tall steel structure was delivered to the project construction site in the early hours of the morning, after being shipped from Tasmania, where it was manufactured.

The 34T structure will be fitted out on site ahead of being lifted into position by a 750T crane later this year.

The purpose-built pedestrian overpass will be finished in aluminium cladding featuring a series of curves to reflect the heritage ironwork around the platform canopies. The silver-grey cladding will also feature a unique pattern of perforations designed to enable transparency and good visibility for station users, while also providing protection from the weather.

The overpass allows people to safely cross the rail line without needing to leave the station and is wide enough to allow two wheelchairs or mobility scooters to pass each other.

The overpass will connect with the two new lifts, one to each platform, which are also being fitted out on site, ready to be lifted into place with the pedestrian overpass.

The upgraded northern entrance is already providing accessible access for station users, with the rest of the Ballarat Station Upgrade set to be completed in 2026.
