Perth Airport wins international recognition

Perth Airport has received an international award, recognising its efforts to provide a world class gateway to Western Australia.

Perth Airport was awarded the CAPA Asia Airport of the Year 2017 in the medium airport category (<30 million passengers), as being an airport that has been “the biggest standout strategically, has established itself as a leader and done the most to advance the progress of the aviation industry”.

The award comes on the back of a $1 billion upgrade to the airport, surging customer satisfaction ratings, and as Perth Airport begins talks with airlines for a further $2.5 billion wave of investment.

Perth Airport, Chief Executive Officer, Kevin Brown, said putting airline customers and the travelling public first had paid off for the airport.

“This award is a reflection and a recognition of the passion and commitment of the team at Perth Airport,” Mr Brown said.

“It is also a great recognition of the growth and benefits delivered by the privatisation of Australia’s major airports some 20 years ago. Privatisation has been an enormous success story for the aviation industry in Australia.

“We’ve been able to deliver value for our airline partners and a quality experience for the travelling public.

“We’ve come a long way in a relatively short space of time. We’ve really changed the way the community thinks about their airport.

“We’ve delivered a new world class domestic terminal used by Virgin, a dedicated regional terminal and major improvements to the international terminal.

“But there’s more to come. We’ve challenged our team to imagine how great this airport can be. We now want to make that vision a reality.”

Mr Brown said the predicted strong growth in international travellers to Perth underlined the importance of delivering the next wave of investment.

“We’ll follow the same methodical approach which has delivered this current success,” Mr Brown said.

“If we can provide a better value proposition for our airline customers and at the same time give travellers even more reasons to enjoy moving through Perth Airport, then that’s what success looks like for us.

“A major expansion of the international terminal coupled with the development of a new parallel runway will help set up Perth and Western Australia for future economic growth and job generation.”
