Plans to upgrade the Warrego Highway intersections at Mount Crosby Road and Haigslea-Amberley Road in Queensland are being developed, with input from community feedback.
The $5 million Warrego Highway – Mount Crosby Road Interchange planning project is funded by the Federal and Queensland Governments on an 80:20 basis.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, Barnaby Joyce, said the Federal Government was investing in the road upgrades Queenslanders need and deserve, keeping them safe and moving on our roads.
“These much-needed upgrades will help to connect Queensland communities and improve road safety, while creating jobs and supporting Australia’s economic recovery,” Mr Joyce said.
Queensland Transport and Main Roads Minister, Mark Bailey, said planning was progressing on additional safety improvements, delivered as part of the Queensland Government’s $27.5 billion road and transport plan.
“We have extended the scope of the Mount Crosby Road project to investigate variable speed limit signs and supporting infrastructure,” Mr Bailey said.
“Variable speed limit signs are an effective way to provide motorists with advanced warning to reduce speed when there is queuing traffic from the Mount Crosby Road interchange off-ramps.
“We want every Queenslander to get home safely, which is why this planning will get underway as a priority.”
Senator for Queensland, Paul Scarr, said the Mount Crosby Road interchange business case was a priority for the Federal Government.
“This upgrade is vital, due to the safety and congestion concerns at the interchange,” Mr Scarr said.
“We have listened to what locals had to say about their experiences during a community consultation undertaken in June, and we are acting.
“We are now looking at options to deliver a Warrego Highway – Mount Crosby Road Interchange upgrade that meets community needs.”
State Member for Ipswich West, Jim Madden, said community feedback helped to inform the project.
“It’s our priority to deliver a project that meets the needs of locals who use this road daily and have first hand experience with congestion,” Mr Madden said.
“We are committed to ensuring plans improve safety and reduce congestion, especially given the continued growth in the area.
“The feedback received during consultation reinforced the need for a substantial upgrade.”
Mr Madden said the Queensland Government had committed $799,000 to a planning project for the Warrego Highway and Haigslea-Amberley Road intersection.
“Community consultation on the Haigslea-Amberley Road intersection was undertaken in June,” Mr Madden said.
“That is now being used to inform long-term planning, including developing additional options that we’ll seek further community feedback on next year.”
