The Banksia Foundation has named The Port Authority of NSW as a finalist for the 2022 NSW Sustainability Awards.
Port Authority of NSW’s CEO, Philip Holliday, said it is an honour to be in the lineup for the prestigious award among other sustainability-passionate organisations.
“When our staff are empowered to create a Sustainability Plan that is then embedded into the very fibre of our organisation – anything becomes possible!” Mr Holliday said.
“For the Port Authority of NSW, our journey towards sustainability over the last two years has led to significant changes well beyond our own business, including initiatives that range from ethical and fair procurement, to major projects that are a first for Australia – others a first for the Southern Hemisphere and the world.
“Being named a finalist in the NSW Sustainability Awards is recognition we are on the right path and I am incredibly proud of the people in our modest corporation that are making this our reality every day in their work.”
New South Wales Minister for Transport, David Elliott, congratulated Port Authority on being named a finalist for the Large Business Transformation Award, in recognition of their outstanding achievements in sustainability, including commencing a world-first 100 per cent renewable energy Shore Power project in the Bays West precinct.
“Port Authority has really demonstrated what can be achieved and the power of a good plan created by a committed team and mapped against the UN’s Sustainability Development Goals,” Mr Elliott said.
“Operating in all six commercial ports across NSW, Port Authority is uniquely placed to drive positive change in the maritime and shipping sector of NSW.
“For a state-owned corporation to successfully embed sustainability into the very fabric of their operations while also committing to industry and nation leading initiatives deserves recognition.”
The NSW Sustainability Awards recognise and promote trailblazers in circular transition and net zero action, to the state’s young climate champions.
Entrants are diverse, working in many different fields and sharing a drive to create a more sustainable future.
The 2022 NSW Sustainability Awards are supported by the New South Wales Government and are regarded as the most prestigious and longest-running in Australia and the world.
The winners will be announced at the Award Presentation on 25 October.
