The Port Authority of New South Wales hosted its Safe & Efficient Port Operations Forum on 18 August, attracting 150 industry experts to the event, with a large focus on reducing emissions in the sector.

A wide range of topics were addressed include port performance, container port throughput, marine safety incidents around the world, Port State Control, the role of fuel within a supply chain, how to improve port performance, decarbonisation of fuel and the impacts of weather on port operations.

Shipping Australia said that attendees listened as towage providers, and pilots, took the audience through some major accidents in the industry, and how to avoid these.

Extensive discussion took place on decarbonisation and green fuels, with Shipping Australia stating that “it is clear that policy action is needed to help the industry decarbonise”.
