Kimberley Ports Authority has launched its 50 year planning document for the Port of Broome.
The Port of Broome – Port Master Plan identifies expected trade demand, along with land and marine side future requirements to service the demand.
After extensive consultation with port users, business and community stakeholders the plan was formulated to provide consistency in planning by aligning with other planning instruments prepared for Broome and the region.
The plan will guide the future development at the Port of Broome while taking into account environmental, heritage and community interests.
CEO of the Kimberley Ports Authority, Kevin Schellack, said, “Throughout the creation of the plan the opportunities, constraints and risks were considered in identifying land use and marine zones for common use and dedicated use by KPA and port users.
“In the long term KPA would like to separate recreational activities from the logistic activities to create a safer and more workable environment for all port users.”
Mr Schellack said the plan provides a guidepost that the KPA Board, management team and port stakeholders can use to inform their future actions and enable the Port of Broome to achieve its full potential.
