A Queensland port has won the Port or Terminal of the Year Award at the 2017 Australian Shipping and Maritime Industry Awards.
Port of Brisbane (PBPL), Queensland’s largest multi-cargo port, won the award.
Every year, PBPL handles approximately $50 billion in international trade, including around 95 per cent of Queensland’s containers, more than 90 per cent of its motor vehicles, and around half of its agricultural exports.
PBPL CEO, Roy Cummins, said he was proud to receive the award, which was testament to the hard work and high standards set by the port’s employees.
“Our team is committed to delivering exceptional outcomes for customers and stakeholders,” said Mr Cummins.
“Last financial year was a record for the port in terms of trade. For the first time in the port’s history, it handled over 1.2 million containers and we also worked closely with exporters to send record shipments of agricultural products to Asia.
“We’re investing significantly in hard infrastructure to help our customers grow, such as road upgrades and a new cruise ship terminal, we’ve ramped up our customer-first property approach, and we’re also pushing the boundaries with technology to unlock supply chain value.
“Port of Brisbane is also a leader in environmental innovation and continues to support the local community through our Community Grants and long-term partnerships.
“These investments and partnerships are delivering significant economic and trade benefits to the Queensland community and economy.”
Over the next five years, PBPL will invest almost $600 million in capacity-building infrastructure to improve port access, and continue to invest in innovation to position the port for a digital future.
