The Queensland Government has appointed two new directors to the board of Ports North, following the departures of Greg Nucifora and Martin Lee.
Ports North have welcomed Tony Baker and Vanessa Maruna to its board.
Ports North Chair, Russell Beer, said, “Mr Nucifora and Mr Lee made a significant contribution to Ports North’s achievements and helped position the organisation for the future. We indeed thank Greg and Martin for their effort.
“Ports North are a major contributor to the North Queensland economy, with the marine industry alone contributing more than $1 billion annually and 40 per cent of marine industry employment in the region.
“Whether it is bulk and general cargo, marina and tourism facilities, fishing fleet or commercial facilities, they all contribute significantly to the region’s economy, providing jobs and attracting people to our region.”
Mr Beer welcomed the appointment of Mr Baker who has a strong background in the tourism industry.
Mr Baker is the Managing Director of the Quicksilver Group, Chairman of the Association of Marine Park Tourism Operators and a member of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority’s Tourism Reef Advisory Group.
Ms Maruna, a Cairns-based lawyer and town planner was also been welcomed to the Board by Mr Beer.
Ms Maruna is the Managing Director of a law firm and town planning practice with experience in project management, planning and environmental law and change management.
Mr Beer said, “Mr Baker and Ms Maruna are well known and have good working relationships with the business community and key stakeholders in the far north region. Their appointments will be a great asset to the Board.”
