Preferred corridor selected for road upgrade

A preferred corridor has been selected  for the proposed upgrade of The Horsley Drive in New South Wales which aims to  improve east-west connectivity from the Western Sydney Employment Area and the M7 Motorway to the Smithfield Wetherill Park Industrial Area.

New South Wales Member for Mulgoa Tanya Davies said, “The NSW Government is committed to supporting growth in Western Sydney and providing key infrastructure for future commercial and residential growth areas,” Ms Davies said.

The Horsley Drive between the M7 Motorway and Cowpasture Road provides the main access to the Smithfield Wetherill Park Industrial Area and a strategic freight link to and from the M7 Motorway.

New South Wales Roads and Maritime Services has developed a preliminary concept design to widen The Horsley Drive to a four lane divided road in the future when development demand requires it. The road would incorporate a wide central median to accommodate two additional lanes, if required.

The intersections at Ferrers and Cowpasture roads would be upgraded including the installation of traffic lights to replace the roundabout at Cowpasture Road.

The Horsley Drive eastern approach at the M7 Motorway interchange and Wallgrove Road intersection would be upgraded as part of this proposal.

“The proposal would also deliver improved access to the Western Sydney Parklands and Water NSW and provide a separate off-road shared path for cyclists and pedestrians,” Ms Davies said.
