The NSW Government has released drafts for four major future road and rail infrastructure corridors which will help establish the Western Sydney Parkland City.
The drafts outline proposals for alignments of 192km of corridors to be preserved for future road and rail projects.
“Western Sydney is at the forefront of the biggest infrastructure delivery program in history, and for once we are in the fortunate position of being able to plan and deliver the roads and rail lines this future city needs, first,” Minister for Western Sydney, Stuart Ayres said.
“Securing land for this massive transport infrastructure program will set Western Sydney up for success, open up new opportunities and enable us to effectively link our future communities, connect residents to hundreds of thousands of new jobs.
“We’re preserving land for the future north – south rail corridor which will connect Western Sydney Airport with the existing Sydney train network, the Outer Sydney Orbital road and rail freight corridor, a Western Sydney freight connection and a new road connection from the M7 to the Bells Line of Road.
“The release of these corridors marks one of the first steps in delivery of the City Deal which will realise the aspiration of a 30-minute city for Western Sydney, bringing people closer to jobs, education and homes and improve access for freight and logistics vehicles.”
Minister for Roads, Melinda Pavey, said community feedback is vital to the future rail and road corridors needed for Western Sydney, which will be delivered over the short, medium and long term.
“Building a new city doesn’t happen overnight, and what’s most important is we open up the conversation with residents, community groups and businesses right across these crucial corridors to inform final alignments,” Ms Pavey said.
“These transport links will improve access for freight and logistics companies and connect to the future Aerotropolis – an urban centre adjacent to the airport planned to bring advanced manufacturing, research, medical, education and commercial facilities, to bring new investment and attract high value jobs to the region.”
Reservation on the proposed alignment is expected to occur in mid 2018.
