The Queensland Government has announced progress on a series of transport projects on the sunshine coast including The Wave Stage 2, the Caloundra Transport Corridor Upgrade and the Mooloolah River Interchange Upgrade.
The projects are designed to deliver new road infrastructure, upgraded intersections and improved public transport options to support population growth and improve mobility across the Sunshine Coast.
Geotechnical works and site investigations have begun for The Wave Stage 2 at the site of the future Aroona Station. The works will provide critical information to support detailed design and help advance the project ahead of contract award.
Meanwhile, the Caloundra Transport Corridor Upgrade has reached a key milestone, with Sunshine Coast Council opening tenders for construction between Nicklin Way and Third Avenue. The upgrade is expected to provide an alternative route into the Caloundra CBD and help relieve congestion at the busy Caloundra Road, Nicklin Way and Pelican Waters Boulevard intersection.
Early works are also progressing on Stage 1 of the Mooloolah River Interchange Upgrade, with procurement underway for major earthworks and civil works. The project is intended to improve north-south connectivity along the Sunshine Motorway and support the broader transport network upgrades across the region.
Premier of Queensland, David Crisafulli, said the projects represented important infrastructure investments for the Sunshine Coast.
“We promised to get the Sunshine Coast moving again, and we’re delivering on that promise,” Crisafulli said.
Queensland Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jarrod Bleijie, said the upgrades would improve the region’s transport network while supporting economic growth.
“These projects will transform the Sunshine Coast’s transport network and deliver the roads and public transport infrastructure the region needs now and into the future,” Bleijie said.
Mayor of the Sunshine Coast, Rosanna Natoli, said collaboration between state and local government had been important in progressing the Caloundra Transport Corridor Upgrade.
“This partnership reflects what can be achieved when different levels of government work together to deliver for the community,” Natoli said.
“The Caloundra Transport Corridor Upgrade is a vital project for our region. It will ease congestion, improve safety and make it easier for locals to get where they need to go.”
