Roads Australia (RA) has welcomed the Tasmanian Government’s decision to fast-track funding to investigate alternative traffic routes through Hobart.
The organisation said the move represents a responsible, forward-thinking approach to Hobart’s transport infrastructure needs.
Roads Australia President, David Stuart-Watt, said the Tasmanian Government deserves credit for planning ahead of congestion rather than reacting after the event.
“As the Premier intimated in Parliament, now’s the time to be considering intergenerational infrastructure solutions that anticipate Hobart’s future growth and transport demands,” Mr Stuart-Watt said.
Mr Stuart-Watt also welcomed the Government’s commitment to consult widely with the community and stakeholders about future transport infrastructure needs.
“An open and transparent consultation process is the first step to building bipartisan support for whatever infrastructure solution/s the investigation recommends,” he said.
