Roads Australia (RA) has made a submission to the Infrastructure Investment Program (IIP) Strategic Review, highlighting the need for a sustainable rolling pipeline that prioritises effectively budgeted and nationally significant infrastructure projects.

The 90 day independent IIP review was announced by the Federal Government in May 2023 to ensure the existing pipeline is ‘fit for purpose’ and ‘focused on projects which improve long-term productivity, supply chains and economic growth in our cities and regions’.

RA’s CEO, Ehssan Veiszadeh, and Director of Policy, Royce Christie, met with the IIP secretariat in a roundtable format, communicating the contents of the submission and the current challenges faced by industry and government in delivering the existing infrastructure pipeline.

RA’s submission touched on several key themes, building on existing work including the 2022 Procurement Reform Report Update and consultation with member organisations.

Included in the submission is the need to further align industry capacity with the existing pipeline, the need to reform the migration system, prioritisation of collaborative contracting, technological innovation and the need to decarbonise the transport sector.

The reviewers will provide a report to the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government following the conclusion of the review.
