Brisbane Airport has experienced a record number of passengers travelling through its airport, helping to boost the recovery of Queensland’s tourism industry.

Brisbane Airport had its busiest day on 11 July 2022 since before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, with 65,000 passengers passing through the Domestic and International terminals.

Public events continue to drive interstate travel to Brisbane, such as the State of Origin decider attracting NRL fans.

Chief Executive Office of Brisbane Airport Corporation, Gert-Jan de Graaff, said this is great news for Queensland and the recovery of tourism across the state.

“Right now, the terminals are buzzing with Queensland a key destination for Australians seeking a dose of winter sun, and this is driving tourism and jobs across the state.

“Despite the record numbers, our terminals have been calm and we have to thank the travelling public who are arriving 90-minutes prior to domestic flight and three-hours before international travel,” Mr de Graaff said.

Brisbane Airport experienced:

  • 57,000 passengers travelling through the domestic terminal on 11 July
  • 8,000 passengers travelling through international terminal on 11 July
  • A combined record total of 65,000 passengers across Brisbane Airport
  • Five of the top ten days in 2022 so far were in July
  • Top International destinations include Bali, Fiji and Europe
  • Popular domestic destinations include Cairns, Townsville and the Whitsundays
