The next round of the Support Regional Aviation initiative is open, making funding available for important South Australian regional airport upgrades.

Projects that can apply for funding from the $1 million program include:

  • Resealing runways, taxiways and aprons
  • Upgrading fencing
  • Replacing lighting
  • Extending and upgrading terminal facilities

“The Marshall Government has a strong plan to grow our regional economy and create more regional jobs,” said Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government, Stephan Knoll.

“Everyone living in regional South Australia would know how important regional airports are to local communities.

“Regional airports help improve access to regional communities and make traveling across the state easier which can also provide a tourism boost.

“Regional airports are used by our farmers and often play a critical role in emergencies, such as bushfires or medical emergencies, giving first responders better and quicker access.

“The fund is open to owners and operators of regulated airports and aerodromes in regional South Australia.

“The initiative aims to improve the regional airport network to conform to regulatory requirements, accommodate changing airline fleets, support the growth of regional aviation markets, and deliver regional economic and social benefits through improved air services.”

Last year, ten applications were approved with the South Australian State Government, contributing $887,833 towards projects across South Australia for airport infrastructure upgrades at Coober Pedy, Whyalla, Kimba, Port Augusta, Port Lincoln, Renmark, Mount Gambier and Naracoorte Airports.
