A $1 million project will see road safety improved between Blackwood and Goolwa in South Australia, through the installation of guard fences and motorcycle protection barriers along three key roads.
The upgrade is part of a program of road improvements in rural areas, with the guard fences and motorcycle protection barriers to be installed on Kangarilla Road, Dashwood Gully Road and Bull Creek Road between Clarendon and Cox Scrub.
In the five year period between 2011 and 2015 there have been 74 run-off-road casualty crashes, including two fatal crashes, 17 serious injury crashes and 55 minor injury crashes on these sections of road.
In the unfortunate event of a run-off road type crash, the fence and barriers will reduce the severity of injury for both motorists and motorcyclists.
Works are expected to start in May 2017 and be completed by end of June 2017.
South Australian Road Safety Minister Peter Malinauskas said, “Following a number of casualty crashes along Kangarilla, Dashwood Gully and Bull Creek Roads, the State Government is investing in improving safety in the southern area.
“Infrastructure investment works hand-in-hand with education, safe vehicle speeds and enforcement to reduce our road toll.”
