Round two of the Building Better Regions Fund open

Applications for round two of the Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF) are open, with the program set to continue delivering infrastructure projects that help rural, regional, and remote communities reach their potential.

Acting Minister for Regional Development, Darren Chester, said round one of the program had delivered more than $226 million to 257 projects across Australia, and expected high-quality applications for round two.

“The Building Better Regions Fund helps address the challenges regional, rural, and remote communities face. Through this program, we will be delivering almost $500 million up to 2020-21 in regional economic growth,” Mr Chester said.

“The fact it has two streams — Infrastructure Projects and Community Investments — means communities have flexibility in developing proposals.

“We all know that infrastructure investment, and planning and capability building, are critical to improving the economies and lifestyles of communities. For instance, a clearly articulated regional aged care strategy can have as big an impact on residents as building a new aged care facility in a single town.

“These are the sorts of projects that keep our regional communities vibrant and prosperous for multiple generations.”

The BBRF Infrastructure Projects Stream supports projects which involve the construction of new infrastructure, or the upgrade or extension of existing infrastructure, that provide economic and social benefits to regional and remote areas.

The BBRF Community Investments Stream funds community building activities including new or expanded local events, strategic regional plans, and leadership and capability building activities.

Applicants should demonstrate how their project will drive economic development, make their region a more attractive place to live and foster partnerships across their community.

Submissions to round two close on 19 December 2017.
