The South Australian Government has announced released details of its record $12.9 billion infrastructure spend which will support 80,000 construction jobs.
Key portfolio and infrastructure projects include:
$3.7 billion (over 4 years) on building road infrastructure, including:
- $532 million (over 4 years) of the $615 million Gawler Line Electrification Project
- $303 million (over 4 years) of the $354 million for the Regency to Pym Project
- $778 million (over 4 years) of the $1.115 billion for regional road upgrades
$1.5 billion (over 4 years) on building health infrastructure, including:
- $550 million towards the new Women’s and Children Hospital
- $243 million towards the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Redevelopment
- $98 million towards revitalising the Repat
- $90 million towards Modbury Hospital
$1.3 billion (over 4 years) on building education infrastructure, including:
- $818 million for sustainable enrolment growth and other school projects, including for year 7 to high school
- $269 million for two new birth to year 12 schools
- $99 million for a new secondary school in Whyalla
$1.9 billion (over 4 years) on building SA Water infrastructure
$367 million (over 4 years) of the 10-year $554.6 million housing and homelessness strategy
“We are building more infrastructure over the next four years than any other four-year period in South Australia’s history,” SA Premier, Steven Marshall said.
“The record infrastructure pipeline is a critical part of our plan to create jobs for South Australians and boost our economic productivity.
“We are building the roads, schools and hospitals that will create thousands of jobs and improve the lives of South Australians.
“This infrastructure will mean South Australians from every corner of our state will get home sooner and safer, it will mean our kids have better facilities at school and better services at hospitals for those that need it.
“This enormous build and massive investment will shape the lives of families and businesses in South Australia for the better.”
Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government, Stephan Knoll, said the record $12.9 billion infrastructure spend would effectively change the landscape in South Australia.
“Whether it be the intersection upgrades, public transport improvements or building and improving our state’s hospitals and schools, South Australians will notice big changes,” Minister Knoll said.
“We are fixing over 1,000 kilometres of country roads and delivering the long-awaited Port Wakefield and Joy Baluch upgrades, making our country roads safer and helping to save lives.
“We are also busting congestion and reducing travel times with ten intersection upgrades and rail level crossings.
“Almost $1 billion is being invested in public transport infrastructure to drive patronage and deliver better train, tram and bus services.
“To build on this record pipeline, Infrastructure SA is also developing a 20-year strategy to ensure we have a long-term pipeline of projects that will build a stronger South Australia.
“We are already looking beyond the next four years and have flagged key projects like the final stage of the North-South Corridor, the largest infrastructure project in our state’s history, to sustain jobs into the future.”
