The South Australian Government will resurface 18km of road in the state’s Mallee region, as part of the $110 million allocated in the state budget for road maintenance.

The state government is spending $532 million on road maintenance and safety measures over four years, with $341 million to be spent in the regions.

This half-billion dollar investment includes a $110 million package to boost road maintenance, of which $71.5 million will be spent in the regions.

$690,000 will be spent to upgrade nine roads in the Mallee, including:

  • Goyder Highway – approaches to Morgan for 3km
  • Browns Well Highway – approximately 31km south of Loxton for 2.3km
  • Cameron Highway – east of Alawoona for 2km
  • Stott Highway – approximately 18km east of Swan Reach for 1.7km
  • Annadale to Sedan – approximately 8km north of Sedan for 500m
  • Hunter Road – commencing at Sturt Highway for 2.2km
  • Ridley Road – approximately 2km south of Sanderston for 800m
  • Ridley Road – approximately 3.6km south of Sanderston for 1.5km
  • Mannum Road – approximately 8km south of Mannum for 1.7km
  • Ngarkat Highway – approximately 37km south of the Mallee Highway for 2.1km

The works will begin on Monday 20 February and are expected to be completed by April 2017, weather permitting.

South Australian Transport and Infrastructure Minister, Stephen Mullighan, said, “We all know how vital regional roads are to local communities and that’s why our Government is investing more money on making them safer and smoother to use.

“These works will improve the surface quality and extend the life of these important roads in the Mallee.

“We are spending more than half-a-billion dollars on road safety and maintenance over four years and almost two-thirds of that will go to regional areas, underlining the state government’s commitment to continually maintaining and upgrading the regional road network.”

More than 185 projects will be delivered through the four-year stimulus package, supporting more than 300 jobs.
