Construction has begun on a $1.27 million project to improve the safety of motorists on the Snowy Highway at Sawyers Hill in New South Wales.
Works include the installation of safety barriers and wideningthe shoulder width on a 2.5km section of highway about 35km west of Adaminaby.
Member for Monaro, John Barilaro, said, “Safety improvements on this stretch of the Snowy Mountains Highway were identified after 15 crashes, resulting in 11 injuries, in the five years to July 2014.
“Most of the crashes on this section of the highway, which is within the Kosciuszko National Park, occur when motorists lose control around the curves and this work will address that.”
Construction is expected to be completed in early May 2017.
