The Tasmanian Government has begun a new corridor strategy to plan and identify improvements needed on the Ridgley Highway, with the strategy to be open for public comment.
The Ridgley Highway, in the state’s North West, is a key link for freight between mining sites at Hampshire and a woodchip mill, to the Burnie Port, via Old Surrey Road and Massy Greene Drive.
The corridor strategy will produce a prioritised list of short, medium, and long-term upgrades to ensure the highway meets industry and the community’s current and future needs on this important transport corridor.
The corridor strategy is expected to be completed in mid-2022.
Engineering consultants, Jacobs Group, have been engaged to prepare the strategy, which will examine the current road environment and look at what is needed to make it safer for road users and expected increases in heavy vehicle traffic.
The strategy will look particularly at the impact of increased mining freight from new mining projects, including the Rogetta iron ore project near Hampshire and the Riley iron ore mine near Rosebery.
Public feedback is eagerly invited and opportunities will be advertised for people to provide valuable feedback and ideas.
