The Victorian Government has announced the appointment of the new Chief Executive Officer of Sustainability Victoria.

Claire Ferres Miles will lead Sustainability Victoria’s transformative climate and energy programs, as well as continuing to work to strengthen the state’s recycling sector.

Ms Ferres Miles brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role, most recently as City of Melbourne’s Director of City Strategy and Place.

Ms Ferres Miles was recognised as one of Victoria’s ‘Top 50 Public Sector Women’ in 2017 and her previous work across local government, state government and the private sector has led to significant achievements in affordable housing, sustainability, transport and planning.

Ms Ferres Miles stressed the importance of strong leadership to help the state become more environmentally friendly and ecologically sustainable.

“All Victorians are seeking advice and action to reduce their energy use, recycle more, and respond to the challenges of our changing climate,” she said.

“I look forward to working with all stakeholders to ensure Victoria’s future is one of social, economic and environmental prosperity.”

Sustainability Victoria supports Victorian businesses and communities to reduce waste, act on climate change, improve recycling and use resources wisely.

The organisation is helping act on a range of Government initiatives, including banning single-use plastic bags and e-waste going to landfill, moving towards a circular economy policy and working towards Victoria’s net zero emissions target by 2050.

Victorian Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, Lily D’Ambrosio, congratulated Ms Ferres Miles on her appointment.

“Ms Ferres Miles will provide strong leadership for Sustainability Victoria as it works to improve Victoria’s environment,” she said.
