The first parts of the new pedestrian concourse at Sydenham Station in Sydney have been put in place, marking a milestone for the project which will bring the station to metro standards.
Two columns and two steel reinforced bridge supports weighing over 28 tonnes each were lifted into place by the crane and a crew of approximately 80 people.
The complex operation took place in the early hours of the morning when the flight path was not in operation, to allow the parts to be lifted over the railway tracks and overhead wiring.
Four cameras were used to guide the bridge supports into position and it took workers 90 minutes to secure each support in place.
This is the first stage in building the new pedestrian concourse at Sydenham Station which will connect new entry plazas on Burrows Avenue and Railway Parade, ensuring all platforms are fully accessible from both ends of the station.
