Transport for NSW has been granted planning approval to upgrade Panania Station in Sydney and the tender for the design and construction of the project has been released.

A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the major upgrade to Panania Station includes three new lifts and stairs, a pedestrian footbridge, new canopies for weather protection, refurbishment to the heritage platform to include new toilet facilities, better signage, lighting and CCTV surveillance.

The spokesperson said, “We know this upgrade will make a real difference for residents and will help encourage more people to choose public transport.

“This planning approval follows a review of feedback received from the community during the public display of the plans for the station upgrade earlier this year.

“We thank the community for taking the time to provide feedback on the proposal. All submissions have now been reviewed and responded to in a Determination Report, which is available for viewing on the Transport for NSW website.”

A tender for the design and construction of the project has been released, and a contractor is expected to be on board in the coming months.

The Panania Station upgrade will be delivered as part of the NSW Government’s Transport Access Program, an initiative to deliver modern, safe and accessible transport infrastructure.

As part of the program, a multi-storey commuter car park was opened at Padstow Station in June 2015.

Work on a $10 million upgrade at Bankstown Station was completed in September 2015 and Holsworthy Station Commuter Car Park was extended to provide an additional 400 spaces.

An upgrade of Narwee Station has also been approved, which once complete will provide new stairs and a lift, canopies, and refurbishment of the heritage platform building including new customer toilets.
