TasRail has released two Requests for Tender focused on the repair and replacement of bridges and culverts on the Tasmanian rail network.

The Requests for Tender are part of the joint Australian and Tasmanian Governments’ $119.6 million infrastructure investment in the Tasmanian Freight Rail Revitalisation Program, which focuses on priority sections of the Tasmanian Rail Network being upgraded over four years to 30 June 2019.

Repairs and replacement of key culverts is scheduled to begin in November 2017 and will involve re-assessing the water flow capacity of culverts, reconstructing culverts identified as maintenance liabilities and utilising modern construction materials for new culverts.

The bridge work is expected to begin in January 2018 and will focus on extending the life of some of TasRail’s most network-critical bridges by strengthening structures.

The project will also include the reconstruction of the Elizabeth Bridge at Campbell Town on the South Line, which is scheduled to occur in the Easter 2018 holidays.

TasRail CEO, Damien White, said the infrastructure projects will further underpin TasRail’s capacity to deliver freight safely and on time on behalf of its valued customers.

“And importantly, it ensures our rail network is safe for our TasRail team, our contractors and the wider community,” Mr White said.

“TasRail is very thankful to both the State and Federal Governments for their ongoing funding commitment to Tasmanian rail infrastructure.”

TasRail applies the State Government’s Buy Local Policy and tenderers are required to demonstrate their support of Tasmanian industry and businesses.

Further details of the following Requests for Tender are available on TasRail’s website.
