The tender for the Brindabella Road survey and design has been awarded, with works to begin in 2025.

The Federal Government is working to improve road safety across Eden-Monaro, with significant upgrades to priority sections of Brindabella Road, from the Brindabella Valley to the ACT border.

Snowy Valleys Council has appointed Rigore Engineering Services to undertake the road survey and design – important preparatory work for this project.

There have been long running calls for upgrades to Brindabella Road from residents, the local council and the Brindabella Road the Economic Link Group – which is why the Albanese Government is investing $37.4 million in this region-shaping project.

This investment will support upgrades to a 10.6km section of Brindabella Road, from the intersection of Goodradigbee River Bridge, to Piccadilly Circus on the New South Wales/ACT border.

The survey and design works will get underway in early 2025 and are expected to be finalised in September 2025, with construction to commence in late 2025.

Federal Member for Eden-Monaro, Kristy McBain, said, “Upgrading Brindabella Road is something that both ACT and Eden-Monaro residents have long called for, which is why I was proud to secure an additional $20 million for this project, building on my initial commitment of $17.4 million.

“With the road survey and design tender now awarded, we’re a step closer to getting these critical improvements underway – making this route that cuts 66km off the alternate journey via the Hume Highway, safer and more reliable.

“These upgrades will unlock the Snowy Valleys to more people from the ACT and across NSW, ensuring they can enjoy some of the region’s best experiences – from our amazing camping and boating spots, the Sculpture Trail, award-winning restaurants, and our new bike tracks.”

Snowy Valleys Council Mayor, Julia Ham, said, “I congratulate Rigore Engineering on being the successful tenderer and look forward to the progression of the project.

“Major upgrades and sealing of Brindabella Road have long been an advocacy priority of Council and we have been supported in this vision with over $37 million in federal government funding thanks to support by the Hon Kristy McBain MP.

“The funding is a game-changer for the Snowy Valleys region, enhancing liveability for our residents while attracting new families and businesses to call our community home.

“The full upgrade project will enhance liveability, boost business productivity, and elevate tourism, driving investment and creating new opportunities that will benefit the entire Snowy Valleys community.”
