The Tasmanian government has called for tenders for the construction of two high priority projects within the Invermay intersection upgrades.

The upgrades on Goderich Street section of East Tamar Highway, at the intersections of Gleadow and Forster Streets are part of the government’s $40 million commitment to improve traffic flow around Invermay.

The project includes:

  • Upgrading the Goderich and Gleadow Street intersection to allow both left and right turns, and traffic signals that will be synchronised to improve flow for through traffic; and
  • Upgrading the signalised Goderich and Forster Street intersection to include an additional right turn lane onto Forster Street, and construction of a second eastbound lane on Forster Street to Invermay Road.

Tasmanian Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Michael Ferguson, said, “I see these improvements as essential to help people get where they want to be more easily. Now that we’ve done the design work, it’s time to find our contractor.

“This work will ensure we are able to meet future increased demand along the Launceston north/south corridor and complement road changes being managed by City of Launceston as part of the Invermay Traffic Master Plan.”

Construction of these projects is expected to begin early next year.

The Tasmanian government is also funding and building a major upgrade of the East Tamar highway interchange at Mowbray, which is due for completion in April 2020.
