Roads and Maritime Services is seeking tenders from shortlisted companies to upgrade the M1 Pacific Motorway at the Weakleys Drive and John Renshaw Drive intersection at Beresfield, New South Wales to improve traffic flow and safety.
Federal Minister for Urban Infrastructure, Paul Fletcher, said the project was one of three in the $391.6 million M1 upgrades package, jointly funded by the Australian and New South Wales Governments, to create a safer and more reliable M1 Pacific Motorway.
“The upgrade will involve replacing the existing roundabout with traffic lights to improve traffic flow and reduce travel times for motorists,” Mr Fletcher said.
“The Australian Government is investing a record $75 billion in infrastructure nationwide to ease congestion in our cities, unlocking economic capacity, and making life easier for motorists and freight operators.”
New South Wales Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight, Melinda Pavey, said Roads and Maritime would provide the community with details of the preferred tenderer once the contracts are finalised.
“M1 upgrades continue to progress well with works already being carried out between the Tuggerah and Doyalson interchanges, and Kariong and Somersby interchanges,” Mrs Pavey said.
“These major upgrades will improve traffic flow on one of Australia’s busiest roads and cater for predicted traffic increases and greater freight demand on the Central Coast, Hunter and North Coast.”
Tenders will close in November and work will start on the upgrade in early 2018. The project is expected to be completed in 2019.
