The Rockhampton Airport Terminal is progressing on schedule, with a new mezzanine floor and passenger lounges on track for completion.

The Queensland Government has allocated $6.44 million to the upgrade from its $200 million COVID Works for Queensland program.

Acting Queensland Premier and Minister for Local Government, Steven Miles, said, “The new passenger lounges and mezzanine floor are looking fantastic and the terminal will be a tremendous first impression for visitors to this beautiful region.

“The upgrade has supported more than 50 local jobs, helping the Rockhampton community to unite and recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Member for Rockhampton,Barry O’Rourke, said the COVID Works for Queensland funding was integral to the terminal upgrade.

“This is the type of project that COVID Works for Queensland was designed to help councils deliver for their communities,” Mr O’Rourke said.

“It builds on the $27.2 million the Rockhampton Regional Council has received from the Queensland Government’s $600 million Works for Queensland program, which has seen more than 800 jobs created or supported in Rockhampton, helping deliver 38 projects for the region.”

Assistant Minister for Education and Member for Keppel, Brittany Lauga, said the upgraded terminal will improve liveability.

“This will provide a major boost for tourism in our community,” Ms Lauga said.

“COVID Works for Queensland is benefiting communities right across the state. Councils estimate it will create or support more than 4,600 jobs.”
