Western Sydney Airport Company (WSA Co) has released a tender for land surveys of the future airport site.
The request for tender was released by WSA Co, the company established by the Federal Government to build and operate the $5.3 billion Western Sydney Airport.
This work will include cadastral surveying to map the site boundaries, a topographic survey, and a survey of utilities on site, as well as geometrically corrected aerial photography, so the image can accurately represent true distance.
Federal Minister for Urban Infrastructure, Paul Fletcher, said this was the second tender to be released, after the first tender was issued earlier in October 2017.
“This is yet another milestone for the delivery of Western Sydney Airport,” Mr Fletcher said.
“Western Sydney Airport will be a game-changer for Western Sydney, attracting businesses and generating tens of thousands of jobs.”
At almost double the size of Sydney (Kingsford Smith) Airport, considerable work is required to transform the 1780-hectare site at Badgerys Creek into an operational airport.
The greenfield site features undulating terrain, where the difference in height between the lowest point and the highest point is the equivalent of a 12-storey building.
WSA Co Chair, Paul O’Sullivan, said some 22 million cubic metres of earth will be moved to level the site before construction of the first runway and terminal facilities can begin.
“Building Western Sydney Airport is an ambitious project and WSA Co will engage the best private sector expertise to have the airport open in 2026.”

WSA Co recently requested a tender for Geotechnical Investigation Services and will undertake further procurement activities for a range of preparatory activities.
Earthworks will commence in 2018 and the Western Sydney Airport will open in 2026.
