Works to upgrade one of Adelaide’s key arterial roads, Main North Road, have begun, as part of a $1.7 million project.

Resurfacing works on a 1.3km section of Main North Road between The Grove Way and Black Top Road in Salisbury Park begun on March 19.

Further night works also include a 1.2km section between Bristol Avenue and Regency Road in Enfield.

Another $235,000 will be invested in resealing 4.1km of the Palmer to Murray Bridge Road, about 7km south of Palmer.

The projects will improve the surface quality and extend the life of the roads, while also improving safety for all road users.

Transport and Infrastructure Minister, Stephen Mullighan, said, “The State Government is investing more than half-a-billion dollars on road maintenance and safety over four years including an additional $110 million announced in the 2015-16 State Budget.

“The $110 million investment is delivering more than 185 critical road projects supporting more than 300 jobs.

“Resealing works such as these are vital for ensuring the long-term use of key arterial roads, as well as making them safer for everyone who uses them.”

Member for Little Para Lee Odenwalder said, “Up to 60,000 vehicles use Main North Road in Salisbury Park every day making it one of the busiest arterial roads in Adelaide.

“As the local member I am always lobbying for more funding for road upgrades in the northern suburbs and it’s pleasing to see those efforts resulting in these important works which will make the drive smoother and safer for those in the northern suburbs.”
