Early works on a new transport hub at Spit Junction have begun, with contractors demolishing an old cinema building on the corner of Spit Junction and Clifford Street.
Transport for NSW are building a new B-Line bus stop at the site of the former Greater Union cinema complex at Spit Junction.
“New B-Line double deck buses will hit the road later this year, delivering more reliable and frequent services to customers travelling between the Northern Beaches and the CBD,” a Transport for NSW spokesperson said.
“This new turn-up-and-go service will mean a bus every five minutes during the peak periods in the peak direction, and every 10 minutes during other times of the day.”
Customers on the Lower North Shore will be able to catch a new B-Line service from stops at Spit Junction and Neutral Bay.
“A new indented bus bay will support both B-Line and regular services, helping to reduce congestion on Military Road by allowing buses to pick-up and drop-off passengers without impeding other traffic,” the spokesperson said.
“The site will also include a new pedestrian plaza.”
Work will take around eight weeks to complete, weather permitting.
Site establishment will include the removal of the building’s façade and external awnings, the installation of hoardings and scaffolding along Spit Road and Clifford Street.
