The Queensland Government has awarded the major contract for the $26 million intersection upgrade in Hervey Bay, with works now underway.
Hazell Bros Group was awarded the contract with a significant proportion of the work to be completed using local subcontractors and suppliers.
Member for Maryborough, Bruce Saunders, said the project to upgrade the Pialba–Burrum Heads Road, Scrub Hill Road and Wide Bay Drive intersection at Eli Waters, would improve safety and efficiency for all road users and the works would take about 12 months to complete.
“The massive project will involve installing traffic signals and dedicated turning lanes to separate vehicles.
“We will be realigning Wide Bay Drive to the east, forming a cross road intersection with Scrub Hill Road.
“Controlled pedestrian crossings will also be installed on all four legs of the intersection, as well as bicycle lanes, to cater for students from the schools located on either side of Pialba–Burrum Heads Road.”
