Northeast Health Wangaratta will receive $6.9 million through the second round of the Victorian Government’s Regional Health Infrastructure Fund for the redevelopment of the Wangaratta Hospital in Victoria.

This boost for Wangaratta is in addition to the $15.2 million provided in the first round for a new 12-bed critical care unit and expanded emergency department.

Stage one and stage two of the project will go ahead at the same time, creating a $22 million project with 27 extra beds to meet the demand for high-quality critical care and maternity services across the Hume Region.

Featuring an extra four maternity beds, refurbished birthing and obstetrics area, an extra six medical beds and two palliative care beds.

The redevelopment will ensure more women will be able to give birth closer to home and loved ones, while patients needing emergency care can get the treatment they need sooner.

Both stages are expected to create around 60 construction jobs and be completed by late-2020.
